Advent Calendar – Day Six

Guerlain Petrouchka Eye and Blush Colour Palette £50.40

I went to visit this at my local Guerlain counter and struggled to stop myself kneeling in reverence. Their Christmas collection is, as ever, absolutely stunning and everything a seasonal celebration of luxury should be. Guerlain consistently have some of the prettiest packaging of any beauty brand, which makes it fabulous for giving as presents. In their hands a highly practical face powder compact or mascara can become an opulent gift.

Besides its beauty, I love this palette’s practicality. It is usefully compact for travel, with the blushes and shadows in two different layers, and the absence of any sticky lip products means it shouldn’t become instantly grotty. The shades are wearable and cleverly chosen, with the nude and warm brown eye colours carrying enough shimmer for evening without the kind of chunky glitter that spreads everywhere (after all, Guerlain have created several products specifically for the daubing of sparkle on your face and décolletage). Typically, the applicators included are not perfect tools, but I forgive the blusher brush for its dashing redness.

Everything in the collection comes packaged in a charming red ribbon, and while this does make me swoon a little deeper, Guerlain’s terribly serious suggestion that you can re-use the ribbon as a ‘bracelet or hair tie‘ made me laugh harder than a cracker joke.
