Nat Nails It: Balmain Nail Couture Collection

Be still my beating debit card – Natalie Meehan indulges in some fingertip couture

My spendy ways have often got me into trouble. I spent my early twenties struggling to pay my rent while still endeavouring to buy a sequinned cape from Topshop on payday. Or furnishing myself with Lancôme foundation despite having to eat nothing but bread rolls for two weeks.

Screen Shot 2013-11-07 at 12.32.53We all need to look after Number One, but now I’m a little older and a teeny bit more responsible, I like to make sure that any extravagances aren’t too ridiculous, so that I won’t regret them post-purchase. Fortunately, some self-gifts just keep on self-giving. If you’re looking for something a bit treaty, without the guilt pangs, then I am here to excite and delight.

Millie Kendall and Anna-Marie Solowij’s excellent online store BeautyMART are exclusively selling the utterly delicious Balmain Nail Couture Collection, a limited edition trio of classic nail polishes – Noir, Nude and Rouge – along with a transformative matte topcoat, presented in a gorgeous gift box.

The box alone is worth the £40. Mine arrived beautifully presented and was enough to have me hyperventilating even before lifting the lid. Inside, the four polishes are displayed as if art. I couldn’t wait to try them, and I wasn’t disappointed.

Screen Shot 2013-11-07 at 12.33.03The polishes, which are all free from toluene, formaldehyde and camphor, come with a great, wide, thick brush that allows the polish to be distributed evenly and without streaks. I do hate a fiddly little brush. Unforgivable.  The polish itself has a very thick and luxurious consistency. I felt rich! Just for a minute, until I looked down at myself on my sofa with pasta sauce spilt down Chris’ oversized NFL jersey from 2002.

I wore the Noir alone, without the topcoat, for three days with no chips before adding the matte topcoat. It instantly transformed the high shine, wet look effect of the black into a velvety finish. OOF.

Whoever said money can’t buy you class lied. It can. Even if only for your fingertips.
