I recommended some festive home fragrance at the start of December, but nobody wants their house to smell like Santa’s grotto in March. Here’s some suggestions of other gorgeous scents for the home that will be perfect for the New Year.
Sali’s bought this votive set from Bella Freud, £75, for several people now. They echo the brilliantly stylish Bella Freud jumpers and have excellent throw. The scents are ‘Je t’aime Jane’ (snow lily), ‘Ginsberg is God’ (fig leaf and tomato), ‘1970’ (black musk and patchouli), and ‘Signature’ (incense wood and oud).
My go to brand for home fragrance gifts is NEOM Organics – I’ve always found their candles both excellent value (three wick candles start at £45) and fabulously scented. My favourites are Real Luxury (lavender, jasmine and Brazilian rosewood) and Feel Refreshed (Sicilian lemon and fresh basil), but there’s a nice broad selection to choose from, and they all come in lovely packaging.
This Christmas I’ve also picked up candle gifts from a couple of newer brands. Boabab Collection make stunning candles that are handpoured into blown glass jars (a genuinely lovely thing to keep and reuse once the candle has burned down). They come in a variety of sizes from mini to suitable for a stately home, in case you’ve got any landed gentry on your list. John Lewis have a selection online (also in store at Harrods and some John Lewis stores), starting from £65 for a four wick 1.5kg candle (this is big – for comparison, the standard size Jo Malone candle is 200g and £42). I thought both the jar and the scent of the rose and ginger Black Pearls candle were gorgeous, and the Manhattan candle, in its Chrysler building inspired jar, looks stunning.
I love the idea behind SevenSeventeen candles, which they describe as ‘mood boosting candles for burnt out mothers’. Five scents, each in three sizes, from an extremely reasonable £14, with a donation of £1 from every candle going to PANDAS Foundation, which supports mothers suffering from pre and postnatal mental illness. I’ll definitely be popping these into a few gift bags for friends this year.
