LFW Facewatch

Lauren Oakey stops and searches the best dressed faces at London Fashion Week A/W 14

Here I am again at London Fashion Week and inevitably, it is raining. I’m eager to get to Somerset House, host of London Fashion Week A/W 2014, to see what people are wearing on their fizzogs, but while I’m sheltering from a downpour at the tube station, I spot a flicky eye and some Ruby Woo, and just have to take a picture.

Name: Marilco Kuo

Age: 27

From: Japan

Occupation: Blogger.

What’s she wearing?

Liquid eyeliner from Shu Uemura. Bronzing powder  and Studio Fix foundation in NC35 , Sheertone Shimmer Powder Blush in Peachy Keen,  and Ruby Woo lipstick  all from her favourite brand, MAC.

When I finally get to Somerset House, a bit drenched (despite sheltering myself with two copies of the Metro) and in need of a quick fringe straighten (thanks, Toni and Guy blowdry bar), I wander around the Designer Showrooms trying not to weep at the pretty clothes. I grab a Beautyin beauty drink that you click at the top to release the flavour, which I am childishly excited by, praying that by some magic it will fix the eyeliner that’s slowly leaking down my face to become my new lipstick. After a quick trip to the MAC studio I am all sorted and I set about finding the best faces amongst the hordes of photographers, fashion students and onlookers milling about the quad, watching the shows, and hoping to spot and be spotted. These are some of the great faces I found.

Yay! i love these articles, you should do them just around in london…

    • Ash

YES! I second this! (Would also love to see you do a makeup video or two…)

  • sugarplumfairy

Great feature, would love to see more like this!

  • Ash

Is Marilco Kuo the ONLY one wearing blush?!?! 😮

    • Jenna

Exactly what I was thinking! But I love this Lauren, I’m so glad it came back this year. Wish it could be around more often.

  • lovestruck

LOVE this feature!!!! more faces please!

  • Jane Porter

I feel my eyebrows are under made up now. I’d love to see more faces in the street stuff

  • Bekahbea

Imagine the thrill of being stopped by Lauren and asked if you want your face on SHB! I love these; as others have said, I’d like to see this as a regular “street faces” feature.

  • Lauren Oakey

Thanks chaps. It is fun going up to people and telling them their make up looks ace.

  • Amy Rushton

Facewatch as a regular feature would be amazing. People put so much effort into make-up that it’s nice to see some attention paid! It may not be possible with budget but it would be even better if it could travel around the UK: Manchester, Cardiff, Liverpool, Glasgow, Belfast etc.

Loving the eyebrow action and interesting pink lippie shades at LFW, especially Dinah Lux (I’m wearing the same MAC Paint Pot as I tap), Abby, and Vickie. To’Sho’ lippie shades are fabulous – I’m Beatnik is my current favourite.

  • Monterey mum

I loved this too. But we’re there no women over 30 to photograph. Or were they invisible ? Just interested .

    • Lauren Oakey

Only just realised that now actually. Not a conscious decision at all. Anyway, I’m 30 and my make up looked nice so I was representing 🙂 xx

      • Monterey Mum

30 so old. That represents women like me in our 50’s. Interesting approach after the condemnation of the Cougar brand on this site. Just saying.

        • Lauren Oakey

I was asked to get a wide range of ages but unfortunately I didn’t meet anyone over 30 there. This is the only reason why there aren’t any. If I’d seen someone in their 40s, 50s, 60s whevs, I would’ve jumped on them.

  • jen pobble

I was walking past Somerset House (with Parents in tow) yesterday, and wondering if there was going to be another fashion-week-faces column. Excellent job, and nice to see that one of the featured faces is wearing all high-street brands and looking great in them.

  • lovestruck

new life goal: be a facewatch woman.

  • Badgirl

LOVE this article Lauren – and yes, please do more! Would love to see a wider range of ages but I appreciate that it’s not easy given where you were. Could you ask consider asking people what their Holy Grail product is, or maybe what their trend tip is too? I’m endlessly nosey about this but as I said, LOVE the article!!
Oh and Jacob/Dinah Lux – you are all kinds of gorgeous!

  • Amanda Tomlinson

Loved this too and joining in the call for a regular feature, country wide ideally.
