Think you’re too dehydrated for a fast bedtime cleanse? This new micellar lotion is a lazy girl’s dream.

If you’re a regular reader, you probably know I have dehydrated skin. You may not know, however, that after a couple of drinks I am prone to cutting corners on my skincare routine. These two facts aren’t always compatible. Micellar lotions, the gentle, clear, watery cleansers designed to remove make-up in a hurry, so beloved by backstage make-up artists and models, aren’t always so forgiving on parched skin. They cleanse very well (far better than wipes) but can also leave skin a little tight and uncomfortable. Bioderma have clearly thought carefully about this. I have long since had issues with the way budget brands fail to see the difference between dry and dehydrated skin and am encouraged by this sort of consideration (see also: La Roche Posay and Superdrug’s excellent hydrating ranges). This new micellar is designed specifically for people like me and uses a patented complex to help skin retain water in the way any hydrating product should. It also claims to “re-educate” skin to retain better moisture levels but in all honesty, I don’t see how it can and am ignoring this as flannel. No matter, because this is excellent without the spin. It removes make-up completely and gently, but leaves my skin comfortable and soft with no film or grease. It contains glycerin, an oldie but a goodie that is wonderful on dehydrating skin and is too often omitted in favour of high-tech snake oil ingredients elsewhere. It’s hypoallergenic, meaning even the most sensitive types should be able to use it without irritation, including contact lens wearers (it removes eye make-up too). You just sweep it over your face with a cotton disk and follow with serum and night cream. As ever, I’m not about to recommend it instead of proper daily cleansing with a hot cloth, but if you’re tipsy, knackered, ill or too busy with a screamy baby, then it will look after you very well.
